Two new wood boilers

CTC is launching new products for biomass. Among the new products are the CTC V40 and the CTC V40 Lambda, two brand new wood boilers that take environmental benefits and efficiency ratings to a new level.

The new wood boilers have several new, innovative features that facilitate wood heating. The new technology probably makes these wood boilers the most advanced in the world.

CTC V40 Lambda

Equipped with a lambda sensor that controls two throttle engines.
Controls up to four heating circuits.
Lowest emissions: CO only 164 mg/m3.
Boiler efficiency rating: 92%.

CTC V40

Like the CTC V40 Lambda, but without a lambda sensor and control system for heating circuits.
10-15% higher emissions: CO 194 mg/m3.
Boiler efficiency rating: 91%.
Both wood boilers have output of 40 kW.

Lambda sensor provides higher efficiency rating and more efficient combustion.

The lambda sensor in the CTC V40 Lambda controls two throttle engines that regulate the air supply to the combustion chamber, resulting in a higher efficiency rating and more efficient combustion.
“Not only does the efficient combustion result in minimal emissions; it also means that almost no ash is generated. Only a tiny amount of very fine powder ash is produced,” explains Peter Wendel, Product Manager for boilers at CTC.

The following factors also help make the combustion almost complete:

• Ceramic thermal bed combustion chamber – improved and more uniform combustion, leading to better environmental performance and efficiency rating.
• Powerful flue gas fan.
• Efficient afterburner chamber with "Vortex concept"– uses secondary air, combusts flue gases almost completely.
  
   

New EU requirements: the Ecodesign Directive

As European environmental requirements become ever stricter, the Nordic Swan Eco Label is no longer an adequate guideline.

“In 2005, the European Union adopted the EuP Directive, an environmental directive requiring that energy-using products have an eco-friendly design. It has since become known as the Ecodesign Directive," says Wendel.

Among other things, the Directive regulates how manufacturers of energy-using products must reduce their energy consumption and other negative environmental impact during the product lifecycle. The best-known example is light bulbs, but the Directive also covers biomass boilers.

“The requirements for heating boilers have not yet been finalised, but it looks like both our new wood boilers will meet the Directive with a margin," says Wendel.

Stricter German regulations: BAFA

Many countries lack official regulations for emissions and efficiency ratings, while others have long-standing regulations. Some countries have incentives for users who install biomass systems. The requirements for qualifying for a biomass incentive are usually higher than the legal requirements, for example in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The German BAFA standards are the strictest emission and efficiency rating standards in Europe, and probably in the world.

Both the new CTC wood boilers meet the BAFA standards: CO max. 250 mg/m3, dust 50 mg/m3 at 13% O2

Easier maintenance with several new features

• Fuel chamber has capacity of 138 litres and burns logs up to 50 cm long.
• All ash is emptied from the front. A rake is used to empty the ash from the bottom of the boiler into the integrated ash shovel.
• Easier soot removal. When the lever is pulled, turbulators move up and down, scraping soot from the inside of the convection tubes.
• The handles have been replaced with built-in flush door handles with the same mechanism as car door handles.
• The door can be changed from left-hinged to right-hinged.
• New user-friendly controls fitting.
