Lake and ground water heat pumps
The principle behind lake heating is to utilise energy stored in lake beds. A collector hose is installed on the bed of a waterway. Liquid circulating in the collector hose transfers the heat to a waterside home. Lake heating reduces energy consumption by 60–70%.
+ No drilling required.
+ Relatively consistent heat source.
+ Low environmental impact.
+ Can provide comfort cooling.
+ Easy to combine with solar heating.
|– Access to nearby water is essential.
– Poor heat output if bed of waterway freezes.
– Permission required.
