Three powerful pumps

CTC’s products for apartment blocks and industrial premises are based on CTC EcoAir air-to-water heat pumps. Read on to find out why.

“The investment should pay off in three to four years.”

Skogstorp is an HSB-administered housing association with 38 flats in the picturesque seaside town of Falkenberg near Göteborg. Skogstorp is a typical housing association in many ways: for example, its members are concerned about rising heating costs.

Skogstorp discussed at length how to reduce its energy costs. The resulting solution was based on an integrated system including CTC heat pumps. It was a major investment based on tough savings calculations.

From 300,000 to 150,000 kWh

“We calculated that Skogstorp would halve its energy consumption from 300,000 to 150,000 kWh. We expect the investment to pay off in three to four years,” says Peter Karlsson, head of energy, water and sanitation at HSB Göta.

Air-to-water heating was deemed an excellent choice. As an added bonus, it required no municipal permits. The installation included three CTC EcoAir 125 heat pumps, a new control system (CTC EcoLogic EXT), new buffer tanks, water heaters and an electric boiler.

Perfect right from the start

Tomas Torstensson at EnergiEkonomi in Vessigebro managed the whole installation.

“We replaced the system during the coldest winter in recorded history,” he says. “Because the products worked perfectly right from the start, the tenants didn’t notice a thing. Any problems were quickly resolved with CTC’s support team, who were with us 100% of the way.”

Noise – a key consideration

HSB has an extensive energy and environmental programme, and encourages use of heat pumps. In Falkenberg, HSB also prepared the whole system for solar heating.
Special focus was placed on the noise aspect during the feasibility study and procurement.

“Nobody has complained or commented on the noise since the installation, which is an excellent result. And we didn’t even install extra soundproofing,” says Karlsson.
